Although
tsunami impacts are a possibility on the east coast of the US, the chances
are minimal compared to the west coast. This is due to the fact the east
coast’s closest plate boundary is the Mid-Atlantic Ridge which is
a divergent boundary causing more horizontal movements as opposed to vertical
which can lead to tsunami waves. There is a convergent plate boundary
between the Americas and the Caribbean Sea being a possible tsunami threat
as well as the Canary Islands.
