New Mexico - 7,500 feet
There are now three major island clusters making up New Mexico. North of Interstate 40 is the largest land mass which is made up of the Santa Fe and Carson National Forests. South of I40 and west of I25 is the second largest made up of parts of the Gila and Cibola National Forests and the areas surrounding the town of Thoreau. The smallest cluster is near the southern border of the state and contains the areas of Cloudcroft and Ruidoso.
